Joliet Franciscans welcome four new Associates
April 22, 2007
The Joliet Franciscans will welcome four new associates at a Eucharistic liturgy and formalization
ceremony to be celebrated April 22, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, Joliet,
Ill.
An associate relationship is one way men and women are invited to share in the spirituality, mission
and goals of the Congregation without being a vowed member. The four associates being welcomed into
the community are Ann Casey of Worth, Ill., Margaret Leyden of Palos Hills, Ill., Michael Vinciguerra
of Shorewood, Ill., and Cathy Whalen of Joliet.
Two associates will also celebrate 25 years of their commitment as associates to the Joliet
Franciscans, Jeanne Foley and Maureen Casey of Chicago.
"It's all based on relationships with the congregation," said Sister Sharon Frederick, Director of
Associates. "It's about having a feeling of belonging with the sisters without being a member of the
congregation."
According to the Associate's Creed, "As associates, though separated by time, space and life-styles,
[they] are drawn together and joined in mutual support and prayer to rebuild the Church in the image
of Jesus and to discover the presence of the Spirit in the world." Each new associate has a connection
to the congregation which then develops though a relationship with one or more companion sisters.
