Franciscan Autumn Feast
This year the Sisters will honor Sister Jean Okroi, IBVM, with the Mother Alfred Moes Award. The Joliet Franciscan Heritage Award will be presented to the Visitation and Aid Society of Joliet
Sister Jean Okroi is a member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loretto Sisters). Years ago, during a Human Trafficking event, Sister Jean decided to focus her energy on this single Justice issue. She initiated the Illinois Women Religious against Human Trafficking Committee, whose mission is to prevent, protect and assist women, men and children from sexual and labor exploitation while advocating for the prosecution of their perpetrators. This organization includes nine other Religious Congregations, including the Joliet Franciscan Sisters, and a number of associates.
The Visitation and Aid Society of Joliet was established in 1889. They work closely with welfare and charitable organizations in the area to assist families in need. Each year, they shop for about 125 families in Will County during Thanksgiving and Christmas. They also provide clothing and toys for the children during Christmas.
