                           Meet our Jubiliarians

                     Sr. Lucille Adelmann, OSF
                           60th Anniversary

Concerning her present ministry, Sr. Lucille writes “Presently, I volunteer as a teacher of math at the Dillard Harris Educational Center.  This Center offers an individualized instructional day program to assist teen-age students toward developing their academic and life skills enabling them to return to their home school.  This Center has one of the many programs that “Guardian Angel Community Services” embraces whose “mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives so that they become empowered to realize their God-given potential.”  This involvement for me is quite different from my past experience of teaching in a classroom setting.  It is a “one on one” presence in their lives where the “teaching of math” flows into the “teaching of life” situations.  It is an exciting time for me.  I find these moments with my students to be mutually engaging, life-giving and life-learning experiences in our lives. ”

                     Sr. Paula Bingert, OSF
                           60th Anniversary

Naming a few of her favorite memories, Sister Paula writes: “In 1989, our fourth grade teacher retired and I inherited her Campbell’s label collection.  Each year we collect about 20,000 labels, now bar codes, to supplement our budget for gym equipment, play ground, etc.  Along with this the General Mills people began offering 10 cents per logo.  That was very inviting. In 2007, with $1500.00 from that project, we purchased a new crucifix for the main hall in the elementary building.  Thanks to the children who collected the Big G logos that I process and mail.

“On November 5, 2009, the grade school library was named the Sister Paula Bingert, OSF Library in appreciation for the many years of service I have provided for the children of St. Peter’s School in Mansfield, Ohio.”

About our Franciscan way of life, Sr. Paula writes: “A friend of the sisters in the parish always addressed her greeting cards to us as ‘Joyful Franciscans.’  Spreading joy in day to day contacts with the children and parishioners as well as friends in the civic community is rewarding.  The Joliet Franciscans have been present to St. Peter’s since 1871.  By the grace of God may we keep the Franciscan charism present for a few more years.”

                          Sr. Agnes Goode, OSF
                              60th Anniversary

Sister Agnes presently ministers in prayer and pastoral care at the Mohum Hall Health Care Center in Columbus, Ohio.  “To help people who have had a very hard life to see the beauty of what God has given each of us” is what gives joy to Sister Agnes. “It is often in little things that we find this great love that God wants us to have.”

Her special memory: “All the people I helped in their senior years to live well and to die well.” This attitude toward life also captures some of the meaning of Franciscan living for Sister Agnes: “Seeing the beauty of the people you lived and worked with.”
